Chris Andrews | Updated: January 8, 2024

2023 brought us a variety of new places to eat and drink like Ginger & Spice, Coach Brown’s BBQ, Wingman Brewing Co., and BoxOwt. Sadly, 2023 will probably be remembered for how it ended with the closure of some Mobile favorites. The iconic Osman’s ended their 24 year run on Halls Mill Road along with new downtown favorites, SOCU, El Papi, and FIVE all closing in the last few weeks of the year. 2024 looks to rebound with some huge additions to our food and drink scene, especially downtown. Check out this newly updated list for 2024.

Coming Soon:

Parc Le Tralour

Mobtown Slice, Taco Hermanos, Panini Pete’s, Pickled Chicken

107 St. Francis Street

Panini Pete’s newest concept is a food hall located in the former Moon Pie store inside the RSA Trustmark Bank Building. Housed inside will be four of Panini Pete Hospitality brands – Mob Town Slice, Taco Hermanos, and Astronaut Chicken will be serving pizza, tacos, and chicken for hungry patrons. The fourth spot will be the return of Panini Pete’s! His famous paninis, sandwiches, burgers, and beignets will make their return to Downtown Mobile in early 2024- hopefully around Mardi Gras. The food hall will be open for breakfast, lunch, and will open up for event space in the evenings according to Nick Dimario, partner at Panini Pete’s Hospitality Group. Expect to see lounge chairs, games, along with live music.

Azteca’s Restaurant & Cantina – Downtown

360 Dauphin Street

Taking the place of the former Southern National building on Dauphin Street is Azteca’s. The locally owned Mexican restaurant has built a reputation on great Mexican food with an excellent atmosphere that should fill the void nicely across from the Cathedral.

LeMoyne’s Chophouse

251 Government Street

A quality steakhouse is in the works for Downtown Mobile. The Admiral Hotel is undergoing an extensive renovation that will include the removal or Corner 251 and the addition of an upscale restaurant with high-quality cuts of meat, fresh local seafood, along with cocktails and wine. Expect this new restaurant, named after Mobile’s founding brothers to open in 2024.

Buzzed Bull Creamery

362 Dauphin Street

Buzzed Bull Creamery is introducing a unique experience by utilizing liquid nitrogen to create fresh, premium ice creams and milkshakes, with over 30 flavors available for customization. They offer hand-crafted treats for all ages, including a special line of alcohol-infused ice cream and milkshakes for adults starting at 5% ABV. This spot should be a hit downtown especially on ArtWalk nights!

Lartigue’s on the Hill

4464 Old Shell Road

The previous site of Pollman’s Bake Shops on Old Shell Road will soon become the new home for Lartigue’s on the Hill. This family-run seafood market, originally opened in Mobile in 1978 and later expanding into Baldwin County and the wholesale business, will undergo renovations at the new location. Details regarding the opening date and other specifics will be announced in the future.

Newly Opened:

Penton’s Bistro

219 Conti St.

Taking the place of the long running Cafe 219 is Penton’s Bistro. Expect a fantastic lunch menu with soups, salads, and sandwiches followed by a happy hour menu with charcuterie at the corner bar and dinner specials that will be a more fine dining menu. This should be a great downtown lunch spot and also great spot for dinner an drinks combined with a night at the Saenger Theatre.

The Velvet Pig

755 Monroe Street

For evening and late night eats, this is the hottest new place in Mobile. The Velvet Pig is located inside The Ice Box on Monroe Street. Whole hog butchery is used in a combination of appetizers, small plates, and entrees. Pork Belly Cubano, Boudin Eggrolls, Pork Loin Cheesesteak, along with Birria Tacos highlight the menu.

Piggly Wiggly – Airport and University

Naman’s has pre-made take home dinners, Three George’s with handmade chocolates, Flying Pig Coffee Co, Cammie’s Old Dutch Ice Cream, Pigfish Seafood, Vital Juice Co and other local vendors fill the space at Airport and University.

On tap, you’ll find a number of experimental type beers and seltzers not found in stores or cans… yet! You’ll also find the iconic Fairhope Brewing flavors like Cheap Sunglasses, Take the Causeway, and the popular Blue Steel.

On the Move:

Cotton State BBQ

107 St. Francis Street
